Exhibitions have been an essential tool for people to showcase their talents, skills, and innovations. They serve as a platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and exploring new opportunities. The North Eastern states of India, lying in remote terrain and often neglected, are immensely benefited from exhibitions, especially in terms of socio-economic and cultural development. Exhibiting the richness of Northeast India can be a great way to promote cultural awareness and appreciation among primary school rural children. Pragrath promotes and sponsors these activities and experiences so that primary school rural children can learn about and appreciate the richness of Northeast India's culture, history, and environment. It can help students to instill a sense of pride and respect for their own cultural heritage. Here are the ideas implemented in Primary School, Kankhedi, Block Allehapur, Distt Bijnor, UP: Folk art and crafts: Encourages children to learn and create folk art and crafts that are unique to Northeast India. This included weaving, bamboo crafts, and traditional pottery. These crafts were displayed in the school exhibition. Traditional attire: Teaches children about the traditional attire of Northeast India and encourages them to create their own versions using paper, cloth or other materials. This was also included a fashion show where children showcased their creations through models. Cuisine: Introduced children to the diverse cuisine of Northeast India and encourages them to prepare traditional dishes in school. This included the miniature models and depiction of their cuisine on charts and posters. Dance and music: Northeast India has a rich tradition of dance and music. Children learnt and performed traditional dances like Bihu, Naga and Manipuri dance, and played traditional musical instruments like the bamboo flute, dhol, and dholak. Storytelling: Encourages children to learn and share folk tales, myths, and legends from Northeast India. This was done through storytelling sessions. Nature and wildlife: Northeast India is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. Encourages children to learn about the region's biodiversity and its importance for the environment. This included models of local forests, wildlife sanctuaries, and national parks. Famous personalities, monuments, huts etc were displayed by the students in the exhibition. Overall, these type of exhibitions specially on the lesser known Indian states promoted the general knowledge, encouraged students, and developed team spirit in rural students where they can display their talent.
